We love our DC farmers markets. We love our VA farmers markets.

Here in the DC metro area we have an incredible amount of markets (among highest in people/markets ratio). There are multiple markets every day (except Monday) and they are open during your lunch break or in the evenings.

    Researching some farmers markets close to my current job out in Herndon:
    Herndon Farmers' Market

    The 2010 Market Dates have been set – Open May 6th!

    Market Day is Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. to noon.

    The market takes place in the 700 block of Lynn Street in front of the red caboose and features a wide variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, meats, eggs, jams, jellies, plants and home baked goods. All items are homegrown or baked by the vendors at the market.

    During the summer months, the children can enjoy the Farmers Market Fun Days entertainment. Check back for the 2010 entertainment schedule.

    Jamie – wow what an incredible company. I must admit that I was turned off by their offerings. So much of the food was not seasonal or local (like bananas). In terms of health, its a good start to get people eating more fruits and vegetables. After that the challenge is to get folks eating local, seasonal, and fresh fruits and vegetables. That is after all the healthiest for one's own health and our environment's health too.

    I did see that you can customize your order, so I guess you can ask for only local items.

    On a personal note, I have always wanted to participate in a CSA like this. Only problem is that I love farmers markets and the friends I meet there and the sense of community. I may never be able to pull myself away from the market in favor of CSA.

    Great list — we’d love to see Maryland markets included, too! Cheverly Community Market (http://www.cheverlycommunitymarket.com) is just outside of DC in Prince George’s County!
